Fall River Student Killed On Way To Senior Prom Was 'Youth Of The Year'

FALL RIVER (CBS) – A high school student killed Friday night in a crash on the way to prom is being remembered as a community leader and outstanding student.

Hannah Raposo died Friday night when the SUV she was driving rolled over several times on Route 24 in Fall River.

John Saurette taught Raposo in AP Language last year. He said Raposo was "just one of those kids that you don't forget."

"Always laughing, always smiling. She just brought a lot of energy to the room. Great kid. She did so much for the community," Saurette told WBZ NewsRadio 1030's Kim Tunnicliffe.

Raposo was also heavily involved with the Boys & Girls Club of Fall River for years.

She had recently been named the club's "Youth of the Year," beating out hundreds of other high school students.

Executive Director Peter McCarthy said he received a call late Friday night that Raposo had been killed.

"I was in disbelief," McCarthy told WBZ-TV's Paul Burton. "At 9 o'clock at night, someone calls. You think it can't be good. Never thinking it could be something like this, never thinking it could be our Youth of the Year that is gone. It's devastating."

Police have not said what caused the fatal crash. An 18-year-old male suffered non-life threatening injuries in the crash and was brought to an area hospital.

McCarthy said Raposo's legacy will live on as her name is added to a plaque at the Boys & Girls Club of Fall River.

"She's left an impact here at the club that we'll never ever forget," said McCarthy.

"Here name is going to be there forever. And so is her memory."
