Police Investigate Random Stabbings In Everett

EVERETT (CBS) – Police are seeking the public's help after a fatal stabbing in Everett Tuesday night. It is the second stabbing in the area of Bradford Terrace in ten days and the neighborhood is now on alert.

"Members of the public are of course urged to be cautious and aware of their surroundings if they are traveling there," Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan said.

The latest attack happened around 9 p.m. Tuesday. The victim, 54-year-old Michael Starr, was rushed to a nearby hospital where he died. Starr lived in the area and was walking on the sidewalk on Ferry Street when he was attacked.

Sources tell the WBZ I-Team the suspect and victims do not know each other and the attacks appear to be random.

The Middlesex District Attorney's office released a sketch of the suspect Wednesday afternoon. Detectives went door to door Wednesday night trying to see if residents recognize the man.

Investigators believe the suspect may be in his late 20s, average height, with a tan complexion. He is believed to have been wearing glasses, a black hooded sweatshirt, a black knit hat and black gloves. He was described as having a narrow nose and a thin build.

Everett Police said this is the second stabbing on Bradford Terrace in the last ten days. In a statement on Facebook Wednesday they urged "the public to use caution when traveling in the night time hours in the area between Ferry St and Cedar St."

On March 16, at approximately 9:00 p.m. a man in his 20s was stabbed while walking home. That victim was taken to the hospital with serious injuries and survived.

Police ask the public to "think broadly" and report any suspicious activity they may have seen over the past several weeks in the areas of Ferry Street, Cedar Street or Bradford Terrace.

"For an area that's been so quiet, for so long, to two stabbings in ten days, two weeks, whatever it was, is odd," resident Chris Rogers told WBZ-TV.

"It's really scary, that it's happened now two weeks in a row. So what's next week?" said Donna Flaherty, who's lived in the neighborhood for 45 years.
