British Man Pleads Not Guilty To Causing Disturbance On Houston-Bound Plane

BOSTON (CBS) -- A 46-year-old British man who allegedly assaulted a woman and caused a disturbance on a British Airways flight from London to Houston pleaded not guilty at his arraignment on Thursday.

Darren Halliwell's lawyer asked to have his client unseen during his court appearance at East Boston District Court, but the judge declined the request.

Halliwell, of Aspull, a village in Greater Manchester County in England, is accused of being drunk, hitting his travel companion, urinating on the seats and forcing the flight to be diverted to Boston. He is charged with interfering with a flight crew, and more charges may be coming.

Flight 195 landed shortly after noon on Wednesday in Boston following the alleged assault. State Police took Halliwell into custody, and then the plane continued toward its destination.

He has been ordered to surrender his passport, pay $5,000 bail, stay sober and stay away from Logan Airport.

His next court date is July 29.
