Election Investigator Assaulted In New Hampshire

NEWMARKET, N.H. (AP) — An assistant state attorney general says one of the office's investigators was assaulted when he was looking into a voter challenge in Newmarket.

Anne Edwards says the investigator went to a polling place in Newmarket on Tuesday afternoon to review a matter involving a polling place monitor who was challenging a vote.

Edwards said the monitor, Joe Barton, assaulted the investigator. Barton was charged with disorderly conduct and assaulting a police officer.

Edwards referred questions about Barton's status to the Newmarket Police Department, which referred questions back to the attorney general.

She says the investigator's injuries were not serious.
