Elderly Couple Killed In Concord House Fire

CONCORD (CBS/AP) — An elderly couple was killed in an overnight fire in Concord.

Flames at the house on Nancy Road were first spotted by a passing snow plow driver who called for help around 3 a.m.

The single family home was fully engulfed by the time firefighters arrived.

Concord Fire Chief Mark Cotreau said the fire was so intense, his crews were not able to get inside the house.

"The building had such heavy fire conditions that really entry was not even an option," he told WBZ NewsRadio 1030's Ben Parker. "The crews were pushed back and were not able to make an entry."

Neighbors described the couple as elderly and said they were seen at home Thursday night.

Their remains were found in the home, but their names have not been released.

The state Fire Marshal is assisting in the investigation.

The two deaths mark the seventh and eighth fire fatalities in Massachusetts this year.
