Weak Tornado Confirmed In Rhode Island
PORTSMOUTH, R.I. (AP) — The National Weather Service says a weak tornado has struck Rhode Island.
The tornado struck Portsmouth on Wednesday. It was an EF0 tornado, which is the weakest of six tornado strengths, and had maximum winds of 65 mph.
The tornado had a path length of one-quarter of a mile and a path width of about 60 yards. It lasted about a minute.

There were no reports of injuries, but there were a few uprooted and snapped trees and witnesses reported lawn furniture and tree limbs blown several hundred feet. A garage also suffered a bowed wall.
According to weather service records, Wednesday's tornado was just the 13th to hit the state since Jan. 1, 1950, when record keeping began. It was the first to be reported in Newport County.
