Easton Man Killed While Changing Flat Tire On Side Of Road
EASTON (CBS) – A man changing a flat tire was hit and killed by a plow truck Wednesday afternoon in Easton. The crash happened on Washington Street just north of Union Street. The victim has been identified as 64-year-old Mark Bobbit of Easton.
Bystanders were performing CPR when first responders arrived. Richard Andrade owns a business right across from where police say Bobbit was hit.
"They were giving him CPR trying to revive him but, I don't know what happened from there," Andrade said. "The gentleman was changing his tire and probably a plow truck just came up the road and probably didn't see him and hit him with the plow."
Police first responded to the call of a pedestrian struck around 12:50 Wednesday afternoon.
When they arrived, a red truck with a plow attached to the front was pulled over on the opposite side of the road. The victim's van still had a tire jack under one of the tires.
"A pickup truck was traveling in the same direction and at some point made contact with this gentleman," Easton Police Chief, Gary Sullivan said.
Chief Sullivan said Bobbit was rushed to the Good Samaritan Hospital with life threatening injuries and did not survive.
The driver of the plow, a 63-year-old Marlborough man, stayed on scene and has been cooperative.
"He looked really shaken up," Andrade explained.
Now investigators are trying to figure out exactly where the victim was when he was hit.
"I think there's a lot of questions that we are going to have to figure out where this gentleman was, whether he in the roadway, whether he was off the roadway, there are just too many unanswered questions," Chief Sullivan said.
As far as possible charges for the driver, police say it is too soon to call. They did say the victim lived very close to where this accident happened. Police remind drivers that if they get a flat tire on a busy road to call police for assistance.
