Duxbury Schools Investigating Alleged Physical Confrontation Between Coach, 2 Students
DUXBURY (CBS) – Duxbury school administrators are investigating an alleged confrontation between an assistant football coach and two students last week.
Police told WBZ-TV a school resource officer was told about a physical encounter between a staff member and two students at the start of the new school year.
A source told WBZ that the staff member is an assistant football coach and physical education teacher and that he was verbally and physically abusive to students in the weight room.
Police said there has been no report of a crime and a formal complaint has not been filed, so they are allowing the school department to investigate for now.
According to the source, the unidentified coach has been suspended with pay pending an internal investigation, which also includes the Department of Children and Families.
"The District takes these allegations seriously and is investigating the alleged incident. We are fully cooperating with the State agency that is doing the investigation," Superintendent of Schools Ben Tantillo said in a statement Tuesday.
"The safety and well-being of our students are most important to us. At this time, I cannot comment further as this is a personnel issue and the right to privacy of the staff member and students involved has to be observed."
