19-Year-Old Jack Callahan Charged With Murder After Father Dies In Duxbury Pond
DUXBURY (CBS) - A young man has been arrested on murder charges related to the death of his father, 57-year-old Scott Callahan, who was pulled from a pond in Duxbury early Monday morning.
Duxbury Police said a woman called them around 2 a.m. saying her son, 19-year-old Jack Callahan, had just come home and told her his father was missing.
The teen told police that he and his father had stopped at the pond for a midnight swim, and his dad had gone under.
First responders quickly located Scott Callahan at the bottom of the pond. They pulled him out and started CPR. He was then rushed to Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Plymouth where he died.
Not long after, paramedics were summoned to the house, where the son had apparently collapsed. The teen was okay, but it soon became apparent that police weren't buying his story. Officers spent most of the morning gathering evidence from both the pond and the house.
Hours later, Plymouth County District Attorney Tim Cruz's office said Jack Callahan was under arrest. Callahan will be charged with murder and is expected to be arraigned in Plymouth District Court on Tuesday.
The D.A. said the Chief Medical Examiner will determine the cause of death.
Neighbors in Duxbury suspect mental health issues are at work.
"It's not normal for a 19-year-old to drown their father. There is clearly something else going on there," said Ann Marie Winchester.
No other information is available at this point in the investigation.
