DA: Dunkin' Donuts Robbery Suspect Left iPhone Behind

BOSTON (CBS) - Police have captured a Winthrop man accused of robbing a Boston Dunkin' Donuts back in December, thanks in part to the cell phone he left behind.

Dennis Stack, 41, of Winthrop, is charged in the December 10 robbery of the coffee shop on Cambridge Street. Police say during that robbery, Stack claimed he was armed, and threatened to kill everyone in the store.

According to the District Attorney, Stack managed to get $65, but was grabbed by a customer when he climbed over the counter. That led to a struggle, and Stack dropped his iPhone.

Investigators later spoke with someone who called that phone. They say the person identified Stack as the phone's owner.

Police were able to identify Stack as a suspect by comparing available photos of him to surveillance photos.

The D.A.'s Office says Stack has also been charged in a December 1 robbery at a Dunkin' Donuts in Revere, a December 9 robbery at a Cambridge Street flower shop, and an attempted robbery the same day at a Chelsea hair salon.

According to a report, he also is a suspect in a bank robbery in Woburn on December 12.
