Draconid Meteor Shower Expected To Peak Friday Night

BOSTON (CBS) – Keep an eye to the sky, New England, the Draconid meteor shower is expected to peak Friday night.

EarthSky.org says the Draconids typically only produces a handful of meteors per hour, but it has an interesting history. In some years, it has featured hundreds or even thousands of meteors per hour.

"No outburst is predicted for this year, but then, you never know for sure," EarthSky says.

Unlike most meteor showers, the best time to catch the Draconids is right at the start of nightfall.

The Boston area should have clear skies for meteor-viewing Friday night, but a bright crescent moon could interfere, according to EarthSky.
