Uber Driver Charged With Dorchester Rape Claims Sex Was Consensual
BOSTON (CBS) – The attorney for an Uber driver who was arrested after police say he raped a woman in Dorchester argued in court that the sexual encounter with a passenger was consensual.
Boston Police arrested Michael Squadrito, 40, of Everett and charged him with a rape that was reported late Monday night.
The woman rode in an Uber from downtown Boston to Dorchester, where police say the attack happened.
Squadrito was arraigned Wednesday in Dorchester District Court.
Prosecutors said Squadrito pulled onto a one-way street, got into the back seat of the car and raped the woman.
Squadrito's defense attorney, however, claimed that video recorded inside the car will show the sex was consensual. The camera did not record audio, she said. Police said they did not find anything on the camera from that day.
Squadrito pleaded not guilty. He was ordered held on $10,000 bail.
"What's been reported is deeply disturbing and our thoughts are with the rider during this difficult time. The driver's access to the app has been removed and we will continue to cooperate with law enforcement," an Uber spokesman said.
