Threatening Letter With Mass. Postmark Sent To Donald Trump's Son

NEW YORK (CBS/AP) - Authorities in New York City are investigating a threatening letter postmarked in Massachusetts that was sent to one of Donald Trump's sons.

The letter containing a suspicious white powder was sent to Eric Trump's home in Manhattan Thursday.

His wife Lara opened the letter at their luxury apartment in the Trump Parc East on Central Park South.

The FBI, Secret Service and NYPD are now looking into who sent the letter.

Initial field tests indicated the powder was not hazardous, but the letter also contained an explicit threat.

According to CBS News sources, it said if Donald Trump doesn't withdraw from the presidential race his family would be harmed.

According to the Associated Press, the handwritten letter was postmarked March 5 from Boston.

The letter said: "If your father does not drop out of the race, the next envelope won't be a fake." It was signed "X," according to one of the law enforcement officials who had seen the letter, the AP reported.

Eric Trump, 32, is Donald Trump's second oldest son. He's appeared with his father often on the campaign trail.

Earlier this week the hacker group anonymous threatened Donald Trump with cyber attacks beginning April 1.
