President Obama: If Donald Trump Succeeds, America Succeeds
WASHINGTON, D.C. (CBS) – President Barack Obama met with President-Elect Donald Trump in the White House on Thursday and offered a message of unity to a country divided by a bitter campaign.
The two men spoke with each other for more than an hour and a half before making statements to the media in the Oval Office.
In the past, Trump famously promoted the false theory that the president wasn't born in the United States, while Obama has said the Republican is unfit to be commander-in-chief. But Obama described their first face-to-face meeting Thursday as an "excellent conversation."
"It was wide-ranging," he said. "We talked about some of the organizational issues in setting up the White House, we talked about foreign policy, we talked about domestic policy."

Obama said his top priority is making sure there's a smooth transition between the Democratic and Republican administrations.
"We now are going to want to do everything we can to help you succeed because if you succeed, then the country succeeds," Obama told Trump.
The president-elect said Obama is a "very good man," and added that some "really great things have been achieved."
"I very much look forward to dealing with the president in the future," Trump said, before they shook hands.
