Dick Vermeil: 'I Started Coaching In 1959 & Never Asked About Football Air Pressure'
BOSTON (CBS) - Former Eagles, Rams and Chiefs head coach, and Super Bowl XXXIV winner Dick Vermeil joined 98.5 The Sports Hub's Andy Gresh and Scott Zolak on Radio Row in Phoenix Thursday morning to talk about the DeflateGate controversy, as well as Super Bowl XLIX between the Patriots and Seahawks.
Throughout the DeflateGate controversy, Vermeil has stood by Belichick's side the whole time.
"I started coaching in 1959. When I heard Bill Belichick's interview, I said, 'You know, I believe you Bill.' Because I've coached actually longer than [Belichick] has, and I never once ever wondered how many pounds of air are in a football. In fact, if somebody asked me how many pounds of PSI are in the football, I'd go multiple [choice]. What is it? 10? 11? 13?" Vermeil told Gresh & Zo.
"And the other thing I know because of my racing background is [the NFL] doesn't use a normal pressure gauge that NASCAR or Indianapolis racing uses. None of [the gauges] are accurate for a football, and in the NFL they don't use a very sophisticated method. I'm embarrassed to say I've never asked anybody how many pounds are in that football. Never."
Vermeil later added, "I'm tired hearing about DeflateGate. Move on!" Vermeil also gave his thoughts on the game, including Seattle's problem in Rob Gronkowski, Brady's shot at a fourth Super Bowl and more.
