Millions Of Dehumidifiers Recalled Due To Serious Fire Hazard

BETHESDA, Md. (CBS) – About 3.4 million dehumidifiers are being recalled because there have been several reports of them overheating, smoking and catching fire.

The recalled units were made in China by Midea Air Conditioning Equipment. They're sold under dozens of brand names, including GE, Comfort Aire, Honeywell, Kenmore and Nantucket.

The dehumidifiers retailed at Lowes, Menards, PC Richard and other stores for between $100 and $300 from January 2003 to December 2013.

Midea says there have been 38 reports of smoke and fire, causing $4.8 million in property damage.

No injuries have been reported.

Customers should go to this website to see if their unit was recalled. If so, they should immediately turn it off, unplug it and contact Midea for a replacement or partial refund.
