BOSTON (CBS) -- David Ortiz's career may be over, but he appears to be taking it pretty well.

Two days after the Red Sox' season was ended by the Cleveland Indians at Fenway Park, Ortiz sent out a message to fans via Twitter.

"Well, wasn't the way we planned it, but I wouldn't give up this team or this season for the world," Ortiz wrote. "To #RedSoxNation -- Never forget what we did. Do not be upset, instead smile, the future is bright with these young studs!!!

"I may not be in uniform anymore," he continued, "but these teams were never bout one guy... It was always about the Team. And I will ALWAYS be a part of Red Sox Nation."

Ortiz kept his message brief, thanking his family, friends, teammates and fans, before signing off.

Though Ortiz's postseason was short, he put together a phenomenal final season, leading the American League in doubles, RBIs, slugging percentage and OPS while making his 10th All-Star team.
