David Ortiz Shot, Wounded In Dominican Republic
BOSTON (CBS) - David Ortiz was shot during an ambush in the Dominican Republic late Sunday night, according to several reports.

The former Red Sox slugger was shot and wounded at a bar in Santo Domingo, his father told ESPN's Enrique Rojas.

CNN reports that Ortiz was shot in the back. He is reportedly in stable condition.
This is what we know: David Ortiz was shot at a club/rest. in Santo Domingo; was taken to a local clinic. An attending doctor told our colleague @dSoldevila the bullet hit him in the lower back, went through-and-through. He's currently in surgery; doctors say he's out of danger.

Early Monday morning, Ortiz's father said that no organs were damaged and a full recovery is expected.

The Red Sox released a statement, saying that "David is being treated at Clinica Abel Gonzalez in Santo Domingo where he is recovering after surgery."
"We have offered David's family all available resources to aid in his recovery and will continue to keep them in our hearts," the team said.
Ortiz, 43, retired from baseball in 2016. In 2004, Ortiz helped break an 86-year championship drought in Boston and went on to help the team win championships again in 2007 and 2013.
