Investigators believe the tractor-trailer was headed westbound on Mass Ave. away from the T station when the crash happened. The driver remained at the scene.

Bikers riding by say this is a very busy intersection and dangerous turn. "It's a very tight turn for a bike and truck together," Cambridge Bicycle Safety George Schneeloch said.

He travels this road regularly and said the bike lane is too narrow.

"We need a network of protected bike lanes in Cambridge right away to prevent any more these fatal crashes," Schneeloch said.

Rick Mcguire of Allston said he got hit by a car while riding his bike on the BU bridge four years ago. He said scenes like this are far too familiar. "You have to be cautious and aware of surroundings and that goes for drivers too."

Witnesses said the biker, who is known to the area, was not wearing a helmet.

"I feel so bad for the friends and family of the person," Schneeloch said.

Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan, Cambridge Police and Massachusetts State Police are investigating the crash.

"It reminds me that this is very a dangerous place and you get hurt and killed," biker Keefer Glenshaw of Cambridge said.

The driver, a 54-year-old man, has not been charged at this time.
