The website TMZ is not saying how it got the alleged recording of the fight between the couple. In it, a man's voice is heard saying, "You can sleep with them, you can bring them in, you can do whatever you want... The little I ask you is not to promote it on that... and not to bring them to my games."
TMZ reports the argument was prompted by a photo of Sterling's girlfriend, V. Stiviano, with NBA legend Magic Johnson.
The website Deadspin released what it says is another portion of the recording, which included: "I support them and give them food, and clothes, and cars and houses. Who gives it to them? Does someone else give it to them?"
The NBA says it is working to verify the voice on the recording belongs to Sterling, and says it will take action before the Clippers and the Golden State Warriors hold their next playoff game Tuesday night.
