Curt Schilling Removed From Little League World Series Coverage After 'Unacceptable' Tweet

BOSTON (CBS) -- ESPN has pulled Curt Schilling from his Little League World Series duties following his "unacceptable" tweet on Tuesday.

The former Red Sox pitcher became a trending topic on Twitter Tuesday after sharing a meme comparing Muslims to Nazis, and featuring Adolf Hitler's image.

"It's said ONLY 5-10% of Muslims are extremists," the meme said. "In 1940, ONLY 7% of Germans were Nazis. How'd that go?"

Schilling commented "The math is staggering when you get to true #'s."

He deleted the tweet a few minutes later following heavy backlash from Twitter users, and also took it off his Facebook page.

ESPN issued a statement on Schilling Tuesday afternoon regarding Schilling's role in Little League World Series coverage.

"Curt's tweet was completely unacceptable, and in no way represents our company's perspective," ESPN said. "We made that point very strongly to Curt and have removed him from his current Little League assignment pending further consideration."

Schilling took responsibility for his tweet after ESPN's announcement.

"needed to actually think a bit before acting on that one," he told another user.
