Fitchburg State University To Close Dorms, Move Classes Online After COVID Spike In City
FITCHBURG (CBS) -- Fitchburg State University says it will move most classes to remote learning after a spike of coronavirus cases in the city. Residence halls will be closed for the semester by Nov. 22.
Classes will be online by Nov. 21, with the exception of a few pre-approved classes.
The start of the spring semester was also pushed back one week, and will now begin on Jan. 25.
Large gatherings on campus have been canceled or postponed, along with university-related travel.
Fitchburg State is not the only college switching gears.
Babson College in Wellesley is also moving classes online effective Friday, after a spike in cases there.
As we enter the final weeks of the fall semester, we will shift all classes (Undergraduate and Graduate) online as of Friday, Nov. 13.

University of New Hampshire students at the Durham campus were told to consider sheltering in place, meaning "only leaving your room to attend classes and labs, to get meals, for safe exercise, to study in the library or for other essential tasks."
The announcement, made on Wednesday, detailed that the schools has seen an increase in cases since Halloween weekend.
