Brockton Woman Tests Positive For Coronavirus After Waiting Over A Week For Results

BROCKTON (CBS) -- A Brockton woman who has been anxiously awaiting test results for over a week has now tested positive for the coronavirus. She said she's afraid she may have spread the disease to her husband or others during that time.

Peggy Curtis was exposed to the virus on a trip to Israel and was tested at Brockton hospital soon after. The test was sent to a lab in California and she received her results Sunday evening.

From a hospital bed on Monday, she told WBZ-TV that the last ten days have been the worst in her life. "My bones felt so brittle, they felt like they were going to break. Every joint in my body ached like I was a 100-year-old lady," she said.

Her husband Larry has been showing symptoms of the virus, and she said she assumes he also has it now. The couple has been self-quarantining since the test.

Larry said, "The coughing, for me, the episodes have been 30, 60, 90-second episodes of constant coughing -- your chest feels like it's caving in."

He had a strong message for anyone saying coronavirus is just like the flu: "You have no clue what's coming your way."

Gov. Charlie Baker said Sunday that the number of tests done statewide as increased 50% each day, but Larry and Peggy are worried results are not getting back to patients fast enough.
