Convicted State Rep. Taken To Statehouse Meeting In Handcuffs
BOSTON (AP) — A state representative convicted of assaulting his girlfriend has been brought to the Massachusetts Statehouse in handcuffs.
Rep. Carlos Henriquez arrived about 1 p.m. Friday and was taken into a closed meeting in a Statehouse hearing room with tight security outside. No one will say what the meeting is about.
Asked by a reporter if he planned to resign, he did not respond.
A day earlier the House approved an order allowing the Ethics Committee to require witnesses to appear before it, raising the possibility Henriquez might be brought in.
That order didn't mention Henriquez by name, but referred to a complaint received the day he was sentenced to six months in jail, prompting calls for his resignation.
The Boston Democrat was found guilty of two assault and battery charges and is expected to appeal.
