2-year-old boy killed in accident at auto body shop in Cohasset
COHASSET - A family is in mourning after a two-year-old died at his family's auto body shop in Cohasset. Details surrounding the accident are still under investigation.
The accident took place behind Hajj Auto Care. Police say heavy machinery was involved and may have played a role in injuries so severe that the boy wasn't able to survive them.
Now the tight knit community of Cohasset is mourning the devastating loss.
"The little boy came here every day for just one piece of bubble gum," says Mel McLaughlin who was shocked to learn a little boy who visited her market often had died across the street from her store.
"There's no real words to express how awful it is," says McLaughlin.
Police are calling the death of the toddler in Cohasset a tragic accident.
"This is a horrible tragedy," says Cohasset Police Chief William Quigley who explained the child's grandfather rushed the two-year-old to the Cohasset police station for help.
"The grandfather ran into the station with the child," says Chief Quigley.
Cohasset's police and fire station are connected. First responders were able to act quickly racing the two-year-old to South Shore Hospital, but it was too late.
"The officers are taking it very tough. We sent one officer home," says Chief Quigley.
The tight knit Cohasset community is in shock over the loss of a young person they all knew and loved.
"It's just such a devastating situation, such an innocent little child and the grandfather loved his children and grandchildren very much. It's obviously a devastating situation for everyone," says neighbor Lisa Wrin.
This investigation is being handled by the local DA's office, but OSHA will be involved because of the fact that this accident happened at an auto repair shop. As of now investigators tell us the accident does not appear to be suspicious.
