7-Year-Old Girl Grazed By Bullet On Talbot Ave. In Dorchester
BOSTON (CBS) – A 7-year-old girl is recovering after she was grazed by a bullet on Talbot Ave. in Dorchester Thursday afternoon. A suspect has been arrested.
Surveillance video shows kids with backpacks walking along Talbot Ave when suddenly they run toward a store for cover.
"This is obviously a very tragic incident, fortunately the 7-year-old only has a graze," Acting Mayor Kim Janey said.
Police arrested a man on foot minutes after the shooting, but they're still looking for information from witnesses. Investigators believe the shooting was not random, and the child was not targeted.
"This happened in the middle of the day, on a school day, and a 7-year-old child is now traumatized and a victim of gun violence," District Attorney Rachael Rollins said. "Thank God it is a graze, but centimeters from there we could have been at a very different crime scene."
Neighbor Lewis Polk was walking with his young grandson just as police were blocking off the area with yellow tape and placing evidence markers on the ground.
"It's too much. It's too much," Polk said. "Nothing can be done about it. It just keeps happening over and over and over again. Every summer, every winter, people are getting shot."
The identity of the suspect has not been released. The investigation is ongoing.
