Chelsea Student Honored At White House Science Fair
CHELSEA (CBS) - A 10-year-old 5th grader from Chelsea was honored at a science fair held by the White House after she designed a video game.
"It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience," said Toni-Chanelle Suncar of her trip and meeting President Barack Obama Monday.
"I'm honored that my teachers recognized the potential in me."
Obama welcomed the students, and said he was proud of their "remarkable achievements."
Suncar took part in the fifth White House Science Fair as part of a program she is involved in called "Citizen Schools."
She was recognized for creating her own video game called "Flappy Unicorn."
"We had this program...that kind of helped me with math because we discussed X axis and Y axis," she said.
For her achievement, she was one of a handful of students invited to participate in the ceremony at the White House.
Wanda Berrios, Suncar's mother, said she was "so proud of her (daughter)."
Students from Boston, Cambridge and Dover were also recognized.
