Suspect Arrested After Escaping Police In Charlton With One Handcuff, One Shoe

CHARLTON (CBS) – A wanted suspect was arrested several hours after escaping police in Charlton Tuesday morning.

According to State Police, troopers were trying to arrest 29-year-old Luis Morales around 8 a.m. but he ran off into the woods near the Charlton Plaza on the Massachusetts Turnpike.

Charlton Police said Morales had a handcuff on one hand and was missing a shoe.

A massive search began and they later tracked down an SUV the man had been in before they tried to arrest him. A woman driving the SUV was detained. It was found at the Walmart off Route 146 in Worcester.

State Police ended their search in the woods near the Charlton Plaza around 10:15 a.m.

Around 3 p.m., State Police said they arrested Morales at an apartment on Pawtucket Blvd. in Lowell.

Initially, police said Morales was wanted for attempted murder. It was later updated that he was wanted out of Lawrence on six separate warrants, including two for armed robbery and related firearms charges.

Morales is now facing new charges as well, including assault and battery on a police officer and resisting arrest.
