Gov. Charlie Baker Gets Buzz Cut For Cancer Research

QUINCY (CBS) -- Gov. Charlie Baker shaved his head for a good cause on Tuesday.

At Granite Telecommunications' third annual "Saving By Shaving" event in Quincy, Gov. Baker got a buzz cut to benefit the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

It's the second year in a row that Baker attended the event and got a buzz. Over 700 Granite employees shaved their heads at the event, and the governor said he was proud to join them.

"This is something that, if you have cancer, you're probably going to have to deal with in addition to having cancer," said Baker. "And I think the fact that so many people here every year come out and show solidarity with those people who are battling with this horrible disease is very, very special."

Granite CEO Rob Hale donated $5,000 per haircut. He presented a check to Dana-Farber for $4.25 million at the event.

"People say to me, 'So, are you going to do this again next year?'" Baker told the crowd. "Well why not? It's a renewable resource, right? It's gonna grow back!"
