Cement Beams Fall Off Truck, Crush SUV In Waltham

WALTHAM (CBS) – A Lexington man is happy to be alive after cement beams fell off a truck and slammed into his SUV.

Vinod George's Honda Pilot was demolished, but he calls himself a lucky man. Lucky because he lives to tell the incredible story of a close call.

"I was just thankful, I was thanking God," George said.

He was on his way to work and turned onto Trapelo Road in Waltham.

"I knew what was going to happen because it was coming right at me," he said.

Several cement beams accidentally slid off of a truck and smashed into his SUV.

"I could see it was there, I had nowhere to go because there was a truck on the left side, and these long beams are coming right at me," he said.

"I tried to stop but there's nothing I could do and after the car stopped, I looked at myself and said my leg is moving, I'm alive, I'm breathing. I went in front of the car to see what happened and I just couldn't believe I was OK."

The driver of the truck was not hurt, and George barely got a scratch, just a sprained wrist. Now he's thinking of his wife and three children, grateful he's still alive.

"I'm thankful you know, these kinds of things can happen to anybody," George said. "I can't replace a dad for my kids, and thank God I don't have to do that."

Waltham Police are investigating the cause of the crash.
