Celtics' James Young 'Good To Go,' Cleared To Play After Concussion
LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP/CBS) — Boston Celtics guard James Young says he is "good to go" after a concussion kept him from playing in the NBA's summer league.
Young, who the Celtics drafted with the 17th overall pick, sustained the concussion and whiplash in a car accident before last month's NBA draft. He was forced to cancel five scheduled workouts leading up to the draft, which may have led to him being available for Boston to draft with their second of two first-round picks.
The Celtics held Young out of summer league practices and the competition for rookies and free agents in Orlando.
Young said Tuesday that he was cleared to practice a "few days ago", adding that the scary rear-end collision showed him "how fast things can change. It really opened my eyes about things and I'm very blessed that I'm here and still playing."
As a freshman at Kentucky, Young averaged 14.3 points on 41 percent shooting and 4.3 rebounds per game last season.
