Canton Residents Decorate Town With Ribbons To Honor Storm Victims

BOSTON (CBS) - After a snowstorm led to two shocking deaths last Friday, volunteers in Canton found a colorful way to pay tribute to both victims.

The Town of Canton is decorated with pink and green ribbons to honor the two people killed after the storm. Both six-year-old Kaleigh Kenyon and 48-year-old Tom Gunning died in separate yet tragically similar incidents. Tree branches broke off during Friday's storm, fatally striking them.

"It's a tragic, tragic accident. We say why and we don't know," said Selectman John Connolly. "But it brought a lot people together."

Local volunteers put ribbons on most of the utility poles and trees on Washington St.

"We wanted to represent both of them throughout the town," said volunteer Rayna Carbone, "and show them that we love them and care."

Pink was Kaleigh's favorite color and the town's color green represents Gunning, who was like 'Mr. Canton.' Wherever you focus your eyes, you'll be reminded of Kaleigh and Tom.

"I was touched by what happened and affected by the community that came together," said Canton resident Natalie Navatta-Golia, "and I just wanted to do anything I could."

Though it may be a small gesture, in a small town, it can mean the world.
