Two Killed Minutes Apart In Cambridge, Somerville Shootings
CAMBRIDGE (CBS) – Two people were killed in separate shootings overnight in Cambridge and Somerville.
District Attorney Marian Ryan said Ednilson Decosta, 28, of Dorchester was shot inside a car on Windsor Street in Cambridge around 3:30 a.m. on Saturday.
Decosta was taken to an area hospital and pronounced dead.
About seven minutes later, another shooting was reported on Canal Lane in Somerville.
Kevin Raymond, 20, of Somerville, was shot in a parking lot. He was driven to an area hospital but did not survive.
He was a student at Franklin Pierce University and had played on the school's sprint football team back in 2015, the university confirmed.
Ryan called the investigation "active and ongoing" and no suspects are in custody.
Phillip Johnson lives in the area.
"I got up about quarter to one to use the bathroom. I seen one cruiser down there, didn't think nothing of it. Got up three hours later to go to work and there had to be ten cruisers down there," he said.
Another neighbor, Mike Richards, also expressed concern.
"Just upsetting, it's in the neighborhood, there's a bunch of kids around here. Anytime at night --it's unfortunate, I couldn't even tell, they light off fireworks all the time, I don't even notice until I was told this morning. I came out around 4:30 and they were already investigating everything."
Richards said he had seen Raymond and his friends in the neighborhood and that they all seemed like good kids.
It is not known if the shootings are connected.
