Cambridge Police Officer Accused In Hit & Run Crash

CAMBRIDGE (CBS) - A Cambridge Police officer believed to be involved in a hit and run crash with a bicyclist has been placed on leave.

The off-duty Cambridge officer was in his personal vehicle and out of uniform Sunday night when he allegedly struck a bicyclist and didn't stop.

It happened at busy Broadway and Portland Streets in Kendall Square, just a few blocks from the police department.

The female victim in her 30's hurt her head and back and was taken to Mass. General Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Cambridge Police say a witness who was able to get the license plate number led them to the officer Sunday night.

For now, that officer is off the job on paid leave, pending the investigation by Cambridge and State Police as well as the District Attorney.
