Burlington Officer Saves Man's Life, Helps Woman In Labor Within 2 Shifts

BURLINGTON (CBS) ---- A police officer from Burlington is being credited with saving a man's life and helping to bring new life into the world, all in back-to-back shifts.

Thursday night, Burlington Police Officer Ryan Griffin responded to a 911 call of a man unconscious in a parking lot who wasn't breathing. The officer performed CPR, emergency personnel arrived and his pulse was restored - a life saved.

"The next shift I came in, I was told the hospital had contacted the fire department and advised them he had come around and he was going to be fine," Griffin said. "It was a big relief to find that it worked out and I couldn't be more happy for the outcome because that's what we're aiming for."

Then, the next day Griffin was working dispatch and a woman called as she was driving her daughter in the back seat. The daughter was about to give birth. Griffin directed the woman to the nearest hospital, where she arrived just in time.

"She was trying to get to Winchester Hospital and I said 'I don't think you're going to make it,'" Griffin said. "I directed her to Lahey Clinic which was right about where she was and I had police and fire waiting for her."

Both new mother and daughter and healthy, Griffin said.

"Those were two of the more high-stress calls you see every so often," he said. "I'm just glad we were able to get it done."
