Iginla Named NHL's First Star For March
BOSTON (CBS) -- Jarome Iginla was an absolute beast for the Boston Bruins during the month of March, and was named the NHL's First Star of the month for his efforts on Tuesday.
Iginla led the way for Boston with 13 goals in March, including five game-winners. He tallied four two-goal games, chipping in with four assists to give him 17 points in 17 games played. The winger was a plus-12 for the month, and enjoyed a six-game point streak from March 9-18 where he tallied seven goals and an assist.
"It's an honor. It was an enjoyable month for our whole team," Iginla said from Bruins' practice on Tuesday. "It's one of those things you don't really expect, but I've gotten some great bounces and passes from my linemates. But bigger than that, it's been a great month for our team and we've all benefited from that."
The 36-year-old Iginla also reached a pair of milestones during the month, playing in his 1,300th NHL game and passing John Bucyk on the NHL's all-time goals list. He enters April tied for 24th on the NHL's all-time goal scoring list with Guy Lafleur at 560.
Iginla is currently tied for third in the league in plus/minus rating at plus-34 and tied for 13th in goals with 30. He leads the Bruins in goals scored and is second in points with 61.
Detroit's Gustav Nyquist and Philadelphia's Claude Giroux were named second and third stars of the month, respectively.
