As a result, the Bruins and Canadiens will face off in a postseason series for the 34th time in NHL playoff history. No two teams have ever faced each other that many times in the postseason. The Bruins have won seven of the past 11 meetings, including a sweep in 2009 and a victory in 2011 that required overtime of Game 7.
The Canadiens won three of their four matchups against Boston during the regular season, the most recent being a shootout victory at the TD Garden in late March.
