Patrice Bergeron Announces 9th Annual Bruins 'Cuts For a Cause'

BOSTON (CBS) -- The Boston Bruins woke up happy today after Thursday night's impressive 4-2 win over the Chicago Blackhawks at the TD Garden. Patrice Bergeron woke up doubly excited to announce the team's annual Cuts for a Cause with 98.5 the Sports Hub. The event to raise money to fight pediatric cancer, hosted by Toucher & Rich, happens on Wednesday, March 30 at the Westin Boston Waterfront.

Bergeron joined the show to talk about the event, which has raised over $500,000 in its nine years, and his teammates getting involved in the event. Loui Eriksson, however, has never been excited to shave his head.

"Actually, that was his first reason he wanted to be traded," Bergeron joked.

T&R wanted to keep things light as not to overshadow the Cuts for a Cause announcement, but they asked Bergeron what it was like at the trade deadline as rumors swirled around Eriksson and what it meant to the players for the team to be buyers at the deadline rather than sellers.

"We weren't sure what was going to happen ... Like everyone else, we heard about Loui and the speculations," said Bergeron. "It wasn't easy for [Eriksson] and a lot of guys in the locker room, but it obviously speaks volumes to us to go out and get [John-Michael Liles and Lee Stempniak] with draft picks ... That tells us they believe in us, and now it's up to us to go out and do the job."

The Bruins rewarded the front office's faith with a huge win over the defending champion Blackhawks. Liles and Stempniak look to be valuable additions to the roster in their first two games.

Bergeron added that Brad Marchand and Chris Kelly will be among the players to have their heads shaved at the event, and half-joked that the Bruins' rookies "don't really have a choice."
