Brookline Schools Stay Open Amid Snowstorm
BROOKLINE (CBS) - Many schools were closed Friday because of the snow, but students in Brookline were expected to be in class.
There was slipping and sliding by foot, and some parents were literally spinning their wheels. But Brookline schools turned their backs on Mother Nature.
"I think it's a hard call. In the morning it didn't look so bad," said parent Helen Pittas.
Student Richard Khazanov said it was tough to go to classes. "Every other school was closed. It was hard to come knowing everything else was closed."
For many it was a tough trek, some students saying the conditions made them late for school. Parents were trying not to second guess the decision as they faced gridlock at pickup.
"It seems like the luck of the draw. If it's light snow and they cancel you say 'why did they do that?' It's bad and now we're here," said parent Cammy Severinghaus.
Plows were making some passes, and to make matters worse a power line was down in the neighborhood. All this snow was the topic of the day.
"Every single one of our classes we talking about just going home," Kan Bloch. "We didn't get anything done."
As the snow piled up Brookline did cancel after school activities. Friday was a lesson in dealing with the first real bout of winter.
