27-year-old man identified as victim in deadly Brockton shooting

BROCKTON - A man was shot to death early Sunday morning inside a home in Brockton.

The Plymouth County District Attorney said police got the 911 call at 2:17 a.m. reporting a man shot inside a home on Hoover Avenue. When they arrived, they found 27-year-old Sederick Abreu with a gunshot wound to the cheat. He was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital but did not survive.

"It's sad, somebody's gone," said neighbor Derick Cornell.

Madina Dansoko lives a few houses away. She said Saturday night, she heard people fighting and yelling from the home.

"It was really loud, people were yelling, cursing. I guess it was that house because they usually yell a lot. It's very surprising, I didn't expect someone to die," said Dansoko.

All throughout the day Sunday, investigators were on scene placing crime scene markers in front of the house. A single bullet was found on the street. At one point, an elderly man was carried out of the house in his wheelchair and placed in a car. A woman in tears was also seen trying to run inside but was stopped by detectives. Other family members were told they couldn't enter the home.

Residents said this is a quiet neighborhood and they were shocked to see the strong police presence on Easter.

"Very, very wonderful neighborhood. We're all very close," said neighbor Nina. "My neighbors across the street just gave me some food yesterday because they made extra. They babysit each other's kids."

Police said this does not appear to be a random act of violence. The shooting remains under investigation.
