Brockton Police Add Patrols Near Bus Stops Day After Driver Struck 3 Children

BROCKTON (CBS) – Brockton police sent out extra patrols Friday morning to make sure cars slowed down near school bus stops one day after three children were struck by a hit-and-run driver as they crossed a street to board a bus.

Children at the Warren Avenue bus stop for Brookfield Elementary School remembered vividly what they saw happen to their friends Thursday.

"The red car was coming really fast and the bus driver stopped and said 'stop. stop, stop,' but she didn't stop," recalled Ruben Baptista.

Surveillance video captured the moment a red Honda ran into the three children.

Among those kids were 8-year-old Andreia Fernandes and 6-year-old Larry DaSilva, who suffered cuts, bumps and bruises.

The driver police identify as Yiandra Boria, 38, of Brockton, was caught and arrested by police about an hour later. She claimed she was not in the car.

Boria will be back in court June 5 after she undergoes a mental health evaluation. She will face charges of driving without a license, driving a car without permission, leaving the scene of an accident and drinking in public.

Many parents chose to walk their kids to bus stops Friday and a police officer was present as a reminder that drivers should slow down.
