Homes Evacuated As Firefighters Battle 7-Alarm Blaze In Brockton

BROCKTON (CBS) – Firefighters were battling a massive blaze at a building on North Montello Street in Brockton Thursday night.

The fast-moving fire at an old warehouse quickly reached seven alarms and nearby homes were evacuated.

Fire officials say an elderly man, who was not permitted to be living in the building, was working on a car when it backfired, sparking the blaze.

As of 11:00 p.m., about 25 percent of the building had collapsed and the fire was still raging.

One firefighter was transported to the hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

Power was shut off in the area as a precaution.
