Thousands Walk To Raise Money For Breast Cancer Research
BOSTON (CBS) -- It was a sea of pink at the Hatch Shell on Sunday, where tens of thousands of people walked to raise money for breast cancer research.
About 40,000 people were estimated to be taking part in the Making Strides walk.
Peggy Woods of Kingston was just diagnosed with breast cancer last year. She decided to put on her sneakers and take part in the walk despite her health challenges.
"It's been a long year with the chemo treatments, and the radiation and the surgeries, but onward and upward," she said. "It's kind of my contribution to give back to who's helping me."

Rose Pavao's family donned pink tutus and bright pink "Save Second Base" t-shirts as they walked. Pavao has beaten cancer twice, and she feels lucky to be alive.
She said she's walking to honor the people in her life who haven't been so lucky.
"We had a lot of close friends that died from cancer," she said. "You think of them all the time."
One hopeful thought keeps Pavao going.
"That someday there will finally be a cure and you can actually say it's gone," she said.
