Brandon Spikes Cited For Leaving Scene Of Foxboro Crash

BOSTON (CBS) – Former New England Patriots linebacker Brandon Spikes has been cited for allegedly rear-ending an SUV and abandoning his sports car on the side of the highway.

Massachusetts State Police said on Friday that Spikes, who was released by the Patriots after news of the crash broke, will be cited for leaving the scene of a personal injury crash, operating a motor vehicle negligently to endanger, speeding and failure to stay within marked lanes.

Spikes' Mercedes Maybach was found abandoned on the median strip of I-495 in Foxboro early Sunday morning.

A Mercedes Benz Roadside Assistance Service operator told police that the driver reported hitting a deer.

No deer were found in the area, but around the same time another driving reported being rear-ended on the same stretch of road.

A Billerica man and woman and their 12-year-old son, who were in the 2009 Nissan Murano that was hit from behind, suffered minor injuries.

"The charges against Spikes are the result of a comprehensive investigation that determined that Spikes' Maybach was the car that struck the Murano and that Spikes was driving the car at the time of the crash," state police said.
