Brandon Spikes After Aaron Hernandez Guilty Verdict: 'I'm Confused About The Justice System These Days'
BOSTON (CBS) -- Aaron Hernandez was found guilty of first-degree murder on Wednesday for the death of Odin Lloyd. Yet even though a jury of 12 men and women listened to the evidence in a two-and-a-half-month trial that included 439 exhibits, a former teammate of Hernandez doesn't seem to believe in the criminal justice system.
Just a few minutes after the guilty verdict was read, Brandon Spikes took to Twitter to offer his public reaction: ""IM CONFUSED ABOUT THE JUSTICE SYSTEM THESE DAYS !!!"
Spikes played with Hernandez at the University of Florida from 2007-09, and they were teammates with the New England Patriots from 2010-12. The linebacker played last season for Buffalo but clearly has kept Hernandez in his thoughts.
Spikes apparently did not like the responses he received on his initial tweet.
"Let me get off this cus yall wanna joke and [stuff] smh #coldworld," Spikes tweeted. "I'll get back on [tomorrow] when yall done fake caring."
Spikes was listed on the witness list for the trial, but he was never called to testify.
But Spikes is not the only former teammate to offer some level of public support for Hernandez. Former Florida Gators linemen Mike and Maurkice Pouncey caught some heat for wearing a "Free Hernandez" hat in a public photo. Mike Pouncey refused to apologize for wearing the shirt, though Maurkice did apologize.
