Brad Marchand Scores Unbelievable 1-On-4 Goal Against Kings

BOSTON (CBS) -- Watch out, NHL. Brad Marchand is heating up.

The pesky Bruins winger got off to a rough start this season, but he's recently hit his stride. That was never more evident than on Monday afternoon against the L.A. Kings at the TD Garden.

Recap: Marchand Lifts Bruins Over Kings, 3-2

With David Krejci in the penalty box after getting called for high-sticking, Marchand took to the ice on the penalty-killing unit.

Marchand, who already had three short-handed goals this season, broke free up the middle of the ice on a semi-breakaway. Los Angeles defenseman Drew Doughty lost his stick, and the loose lumber interfered with Marchand on his path to the net. Because the loose stick essentially stole the puck from Marchand, he was unable to get off a shot before netminder Jonathan Quick could poke-check the puck away.

Yet Marchand stuck with it, jumping on the loose puck before starting and stopping, deking and dragging and eventually beating Quick to the five-hole.

"I didn't plan that or anything. I was just trying to take it to the net and luckily it went in," Marchand said after the win.

It was Marchand's fourth short-handed goal of the season, most in the NHL. Marchand added a go-ahead goal midway through the third period on Monday. He also has a goal in four straight games, a stretch in which he's posted 6-1-7 totals.

"The confidence that his game is showing just by that short-handed goal he scored -- patience with the puck, no panic, and again, control of his emotions," head coach Claude Julien said after the Bruins win. "He's not letting anything throw him off his game right now."
