Boy Abducted From Rockland School, Dropped Off In Abington

ROCKLAND (CBS) - Police are looking for a man who abducted a 9-year-old boy from the Memorial Park School in Rockland Tuesday afternoon.

At about 2:15 p.m., police say the boy "was guided to a vehicle" by a man who he thought was a friend of his family.

The man then drove around Rockland and Abington for about 25 minutes before he told the boy to "get out" in the Lake Street area of Abington.

The child was not harmed, but police are worried the man might strike again.

"We're concerned that this may have been sort of a dry run for somebody that is considering an abduction," Rockland Police Chief John Llewellyn said.

"This clearly fits all of the criteria of an abduction or a kidnapping.  However, he was released unharmed."

The suspect was not a friend or relative, according to police. He is described as white, with a thin build, with white hair that is longer in the back than on top.

He was driving a four-door sedan that is either white or gray. The car has either white or silver wheels or hubcaps.

Police are asking for the public's help in locating the man.

Rockland Police are stepping up patrols at schools in both the morning and afternoon on Wednesday.
