Bouncer Stabbed 10 Times While Breaking Up Fight At The Greatest Bar In Boston

BOSTON (CBS) - A bouncer at a popular Boston bar was stabbed several times while trying to break up a fight early Saturday morning, according to police.

Police say that the victim, a bouncer at The Greatest Bar, had stepped in to break up the fight between patrons around 1:15 a.m., when a man jumped on his back and started stabbing him.

According to police sources, the bouncer, who was not identified, was stabbed eight times in the back, once in the arm and once in the back of the neck.

He was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital. Police said on Saturday morning that he was in serious condition, but that his injuries were believed to be non-life threatening.

Julie Fairweather, one of the owners of The Greatest Bar downplayed the stabbing, telling WBZ-TV that the victim suffered only superficial wounds and had been released from the hospital. Police were not immediately able to confirm that report.

Fairweather also disputed a report by officials that a second bouncer who attempted to step in was hit over the head with a bottle, and was treated for injuries at Mass General Hospital.

Police have not made any arrests.
