Boston's Best Waterfront Restaurants For 2014

It's been nearly three years since our last installment of Boston's Best Waterfront Dining. And while all of the restaurants on the list still serve as worthy spots to visit, a lot has changed along Boston's waterfront. Here are five more of the best spots for waterfront dining in Boston.

Foursquare Favorite: Anthony's Cafe On The Waterfront
252 Commercial St.
Boston, MA 02109

This breakfast place in Boston's North End — one of the Best Waterfront Restaurants in Boston — may be no-frills (it's cash only for loaded vegetable omelettes, hearty pancakes, and other standard dishes), but it remains a beloved choice in Beantown. Foursquare users say to bring your sports talk; the guy behind the bar is a fanatical Boston sports fan, and will happily share facts and stats all day long. Then walk across Atlantic Ave. for a stroll along the Harborwalk.

Head to Foursquare to sort reviews by these tastes:

Legal Harborside
270 Northern Ave
Boston, Massachusetts 02210
(617) 477-2900
legalseafoods.com

Legal's flagship restaurant opened around the same time we published our last waterfront dining guide. It's situated on the Seaport side of Boston Harbor, and its first, second and third floor restaurants all feature different menus, which means three entirely different dining experiences. There's something for just about everyone. The first floor offers up an informal dining style with a limited harbor view, while the top two floors come with spectacular sweeping views of the harbor. The second floor restaurant focuses on finer cuisine and the third floor functions as a bar and lounge.

Aragosta Bar and Bistro
3 Battery Wharf
Boston, MA 02109
(617) 994-9001

Aragosta is nestled away inside the luxurious Fairmont Battery Wharf Hotel in the North End, right along the Harborwalk. The menu offers contemporary Italian cuisine with exquisite homemade pasta and plenty of seafood. Your best views are from the Terrace.

Pier 6
1 8th Street
Boston, MA 02129
(617) 337-0054
pier6boston.com

Does everyone remember Tavern on the Water? The dive restaurant and bar on Pier 6 in Charlestown closed down a couple of years ago, which meant there was no longer a place to go for cheap drinks, mediocre food, floors that your shoes would stick to and stunning views of the harbor and downtown Boston. Fast forward through a massive renovation, the appropriately named Pier 6 restaurant has opened in its place. The cheap drinks have been replaced with a well thought out beer, wine and spirits list; the menu has been simplified and upgraded to feature fresh seafood and local ingredients, the floors have been re-done (thank goodness), but the view remains the same.

Strega Waterfront
1 Marina Park Drive
Boston, MA 02210
(617) 345-3992

Ten years after then-car salesman Nick Varano bought a piece of property in the North End and launched his first restaurant there, he has managed to build a small restaurant empire. Among his feats is a restaurant and bar that sits on Fan Pier. Strega Waterfront was one of the first in a new wave of restaurants to set up shop in the Seaport District, which has since exploded with popularity. And as far as the Italian fare, service and atmosphere go, there are good reasons that Strega Waterfront has stuck around.

City Landing
255 State Street
Boston, MA 02109
(617) 725-0305
www.citylanding.com

Come for the food, stay for the view. City Landing's dishes incorporate local ingredients into delicious dishes like Cape Clams and Day Boat Scallops along with delicacies like small-batch artisanal cheeses and more. City Landing's attention to detail reflects in its range of dishes on its standard, vegetarian and vegan, and gluten free menus.
