Boston Within A Foot Of Snowiest Winter In City's History

BOSTON (CBS) – One more foot of snow and Boston will have a new record.

After the weekend storm, the city now has 95.7 inches of snow for the winter of 2014-15.

That's 11.9 inches away from the record of 107.6 set in 1995-96.

90.2 inches of snow have fallen in Boston since January 23.

The winter of 1993-94 is currently in second place for snowiest winters with 96.3 inches.  Weather record keeping began in Boston in 1891.

Once the storm left the city, brutal cold moved in. The temperature in Boston bottomed out at -3 degrees early Monday morning, the coldest reading in the city since January 2004.

The wind added insult to injury. Wind chills hit -26 in Boston and -37 in Worcester.

Frostbite can occur within 15 minutes on exposed skin in these conditions.

Next storm is due Tuesday morning, arriving around 4 to 6 a.m., with light to moderate snow during rush hour. It will be gone by the evening.

Watch Danielle Niles's forecast:

One to three inches of snow is forecast along and north of the Massachusetts Turnpike.

Three-to-six inches are expected south of Boston and the Pike.
